Eocene Arts presents fine Japanese bamboo baskets, mid-Century Japanese bronze vases, 20th century studio ceramics, and kindred things.

We offer unique, first-quality works made of entirely natural materials by the leading artists in their fields. Eocene Arts has had recent exhibitons in San Francisco, New York, and Kyoto. We welcome visitors at our studio in Kyoto.

In Japanese basketry we specialize in the works of Iizuka Hosai II, Iizuka Rokansai, Tanabe Chikuunsai I and II, Hayakawa Shokosai V, Wada Waichisai II and III, Shono Shounsai, Maeda Chikubosai I and II, Sakaguchi Sounsai, Kosuge Kogetsu, Ishikawa Shoun, Yokota Hosai, Suemura Shobun, Tanaka Kosai, and Abe Motoshi.

Our collection of ceramic arts centers on the work of Kawai Kanjiro and Hamada Shoji, as well as modernist innovators Yagi Kazuo, Suzuki Osamu and Kamoda Shoji.

We also present fine 20th century Japanese bronze vessels, unusual mingei  (folk) arts, and other works of special beauty and depth. A limited selection of these objects appears on the Eocene Extras and Shop pages.

Our collection is always evolving. Recently acquired works often do not appear on this site for some time. Please contact us directly to inquire about individual artists or works of special interest.
