Eocene Arts presents fine Japanese bamboo baskets and other expressions of the human experience of nature.

We offer unique, first-quality works made of entirely natural materials by the leading artists in their fields. Expertly crafted, and yet brilliantly intuitive, these things have a quality and coherence uncommon in the world today.

We specialize the works of leading 20th century Japanese bamboo artists such as Iizuka Hosai II, Iizuka Rokansai, Tanabe Chikuunsai I, Hayakawa Shokosai, Wada Waichisai I, Yamamoto Chikuryusai, Shono Shounsai, Maeda Chikubosai I, and their descendants, including Tanabe Chikuunsai II, Sakaguchi Sounsai, Wada Waichisai II and III, Kosuge Kogetsu, Ishikawa Shoun, Yokota Hosai, Suemura Shobun, Tanaka Kosai, and Abe Motoshi.

Our collection of ceramic arts centers on the work of Kawai Kanjiro and Hamada Shoji, as well as modernist innovators Yagi Kazuo, Suzuki Osamu and Kamoda Shoji.

We also seek fine 20th century Japanese bronze vessels, unusual mingei  (folk) arts, and other works of special beauty and depth. A selection of these found objects appears on the Eocene Extras and Shop pages.

Our collection is always evolving. Recently acquired works may not yet appear on this site. Please contact us directly to inquire about individual artists or works of special interest.
