Flower Basket titled 'Fresh Growth' by Wada Waichisai III

An excellent basket by Waichisai III. It feels both classical and modern. The body is built of thousand-line construction, a technique so indicative of A-level skill in the post-war period, which is complemented by fine rattan-work--emblematic of the old generations. The scrolling cut bamboo is only found on elaborate classical baskets, is very dramatic and architectural, as is the bent handle.
