Each of these vases were found years apart in different cities. Unsigned, they are clearly the work of a skilled 20th century artist, but who could it be? One dealer claimed that they are the work of Satake Kiyoshi, an apprentice of Living National Treasure Munakata Shiko, but I have been unable to confirm that definitively. The mystery deepened recently when I found  the same vase featured in a beautiful book of photographs featuring the arrangements of one of the leading contemporary Japanese ikebana artists. What artist would leave such compelling works unsigned?
